hello and welcome to Beaufort Academy we are so glad that you're going to be a part of our school this year I am Tara Prince that I am the principal of Beaufort Academy and I want to invite you in and show you our school if you come to Beaufort Academy you will enter through the front door is there in the middle of the building but you have to your ID to check someone out and you press the button over here because we have a buzz then system come on let's go meet some of my friends this is where we will check in and out students during the day you will use the clipboard sign your child out or sign them then they can come through the building and then or if they will come out of the building and meet you in this Lobby once you come and sign them out you will need to knock on the window and this Claudia you will show her your ID and she will call the student for you to check tap welcome to Beaufort Academy thank you Miss Claudia okay we are in a typical first grade classroom the teachers are not in the building yet so it will definitely be decorated a little bit more but it is set up typically the way see when your child is here they will have a desk they will have a chair and they also have a cubby space for their supplies that they we keep at their own death so this is a first grade classroom but guess what I have some friends in first second and third grade that I would like to introduce to you so let's to find these friend hello this is our media center this is for your students get to come and check out sing your children are going to be bringing home books probably every day at the Academy and they will get have that opportunity but I found some friends in our media center mr. Chaffin in this keep they are the assistant principal Miss Lowe's he teaches first grade Miss Appling teaches second grade in this way teaches third grade and they're going to tell you a little bit of information about each grade level some things that might be in you for you and your child starting next year and some that might be a little bit different at the Academy so I'm going to start with mr. Chaffin misprints thank you for the introduction to say parents weird super excited about the opportunity of you and your child any part of the be a family so we like to say welcome to each of you and please know that safety is our top priority for your children or child so please make sure that we have a phone number on file to be able to contact you car riders if your child decides not to ride the bus and is a car rider be sure do you have a car tag that you can get from your homeroom teacher also make sure that car tag is displayed when you're picking up your child in the car rider line or children also please know that those lines are long and it does take time to get through those lines so please be patient with us no cell phones during your time in the car rider line and please do not cut or drop off your student or child in the car rider line be sure that it be a staff member assist your child entering and exiting the vehicle also please do not drop off children in the front of the building or in the front of the school and play snow in be patient with this that first couple days of school or the first week of school that the car rider lines will be somewhat slow if your child is a bus rider please know that buses will run a little later in the mornings and probably a little later in the afternoon so just please be patient our bus riders learn their new routes if you have transportation changes please make sure that you notify your teacher or teachers because some of our students have two teachers throughout the day also be sure to notify the front office you can notify me is Claudius Charlton who works in our front office and her contact information can be found on the VA website checkouts please do not check out students after to 4 if you have the check your child out please make sure you do that before 2:45 breakfast is served at our school until 8:15 each day we also have a healthy snack during the day and we also serve lunch Schooners we have a school nurse here for your child please make sure that you are school nurse if your child has medications is aware of the medications that your child is taking or needs to be given throughout the day at school you may have heard about a program called wolf pack Wolf Wolf Pack is a before-school and after-school program Wolfpack begins at 6:30 a.m. and ends at 7:30 a.m. and in the afternoon will pay that begins at 3:30 p.m. and ends at 6 p.m. Wolfpack is used to assist you when you are unable to get here immediately after school to pick up your child if they're not a bus rider or bus rider or car rider or if you have some type of schedule or meeting early in the morning that you could drop get off before school actually starts please see your homeroom teacher for more information about Wolfpack and also information about Wolfpack can be found on the VA website school records make sure all school records are up to if you have information that needs to be given to be a be sure to see our registrar who is mr. Lee Lawson or you can send that information to your homeroom teacher now I'll turn it over to miss Keith thank you mister taken we need to spend a little bit of time talking to you about The Incredibles staff we have here at ba you may think I'm a little biased but I have to say we definitely have the best of the best your first point of contact is going to be your classroom teacher in first grade this is going to be find teacher our students primarily spend the entire day in that one classroom and second and third our children have the incredible experience to have two teachers there departmentalize so teacher will teach English language arts any other will teach math social studies and science the students will move between those two classrooms during the day we're also very fortunate here at Beaufort Academy to have parapros these Care Professionals work with our teachers in snow grapes and help them prepare for the day and the student's needs in addition to our classroom teachers and our parapost we have interventionist these interventionist work with the EIP program which is early intervention in in math and they assist our students in their weaknesses well in addition to our core subjects are children also able to participate in specials each day here at Buford Academy we offer music art technology and computer classes your child will get to go to specials each day we all know how essential formula for reading is at this age and our library is the Hub our school students will be able to come to the library light Mister time taken shared and visit with Miss nexstar media specialist and her clerk Miss Martin to find the very best book for them our school also have she's phenomenal counselors Miss Mobley and Miss Woodworth do our classroom lessons and meet with children to work with them on their social and emotional needs if your student should be feeling ill are nurse Whitney Burns is also always available to assist with any needs you have medically I do think one of the most exciting part of our school day is getting to go to the cafeteria for lunch I know my personal children love it Miss Ashley man is our cafeteria manager and she and her staff work very hard to provide to Great nutritious meals to your children each day breakfast and lunch are available when you enter our school CR front office Miss Claudia Charlton will be there to help along with Miss Tina Bradford our bookkeeper and Lee Lawson our registrar there a dynamic office team that can help you with any school related forms as previously mentioned I miss her prints will be our principal this year and mr. Jason and I will be your assistant principals and we encourage you to always reach out with any questions or help that you need and laugh I do need to mention that for this year one of our favorite groups are missing are volunteers unfortunately at this time we will not be able to welcome visitors for lunch or Volunteers in our building okay I'm going to hand it back over to mr. Jason thank you Miss keep for that wonderful information can an update about the things that are going on here at the VA I would like to just reiterate what misky was saying we have a wonderful wonderful staff of teachers here at be a support staff in administrative staff so if you have an be sure to thank your teacher for what they do each and every day cuz they go above and beyond each and every day for all of our students with that being said we do have high expectations here at be a hazard teachers have a high expectations of your child or children in the classroom make sure that your child is here each and every day cuz attendance does impact their learning there's going to be a new learning management platform that you guys were here about is called canvas you would get more information about canvas from your child or children we have several methods of communication here at VA those are agendas weekly folders monthly newsletters emails text blasts report cards Fox report and conferences we feel it's very vital that communication is key to the success of your child here at ba and also that is a key component of building positive relationships with your teacher or your child's teacher so make sure if you have any kind of questions did you shout to the administration or to your homeroom teacher or your child's teacher homework we feel that homework is very vital in the success of your child in learning homework is an extension of the classroom so be sure to check with your child in every day to see if they have homework and if they need assistance with their homework behavior and discipline be sure that you review our student handbook with your child before we have open house and complete any necessary forms that are Mesquite I'm going to turn it back over to you now thank you thanks again dissertation our mission here at ba if every child every day your Student Success is our focus and we're fortunate to have many spell programs here to meet the specific needs of each child as mentioned before we have VIP which is early intervention in reading and math we also have esol for English speakers of other languages speech and special ed the services are offered as well as gifted instruction are teachers and administration partner together with you if needed in the RTI program which stands for response to intervention we're also very fortunate to be able to offer Saturday school and summer school during the year Beaufort Academy is a Title 1 school and I am your title 1 liaison please always reach out with any questions you may have all of our staff candy email by simply riding their first name. Org or you can leave a message at our front office by calling 678-848-2696 zero one thing that we've had a lot of questions about this year are water bottles I've got three examples of water bottles today this one which looks like international travel coffee mug a clear bottle and a big cup this year at Buford Academy we would like your child to have a transparent water bottle meaning this is a perfect example as well as this is a perfect example this one is not going to this year the other thing we're really looking for in our water bottles is a pop top so if you see this water bottle it can be easily opened and closed to prevent spill we want to avoid water bottles like this that have straw or the plastic plastic disposable bottles that you would buy at the store thank you for helping us out we will not have water in the water fountain is this year so it's going to be very important for our children to have a transparent water thank you so much I'm going to hand it over to miss low or first grade teacher Hakeem is Keith hello everybody and I'm so excited to meet all the rising first graders that are in Jonas Academy this year we cannot wait until you're here I know you're looking forward to and you're probably wondering what is different about the academy and the elementary school where you may have come from so I want to tell you about a few of those differences and one thing you guys are going to be varix it about is we have to Jen's at the school there's a green gem and a Gold Gym I'm so you will be going to one of those gems and they during the year we also have three playgrounds there is going to be a first grade playground a second grade playground 3rd grade playground this year and you will get to try out each of those playgrounds during the year at some time on parents to let you know we do have two car rider lines at the elementary school there was only one here we have a green and a gold if you are at 4 grade student this year you will be a car rider in the Gold line that is going to be on Robert Bell Parkway I'm so make sure parents that you're aware of that if you do have an older sibling we will send them down to the Gold's Gym with the first grader to be picked up so they'll be picked up there and then and as well as you're moving from kindergarten to first grade the first grade teachers want you guys to know parents that there are few things you can do to help us I'm in kindergarten you at your child had a full-time care pro in the classroom so they were there the entire data SC in first grade it's not going to be that way we do not have a parapro full-time so there are some things you can do to help with that and make sure that your first grader is prepared and to do things independently like unpack their zip their book bag zipper I'm also coats and jackets and hoodies if you'll make sure they know how to put those on and take them off independently as well as shoe time that will be a big help for us as teachers I know that's tricky I have a first grader myself and we're still working on that. Anything you can do to help get them prepared to do those types of things independently make sure they know how to open the things in their lunch box juice boxes milk cartons water bottles anything like that will be a big help to us I did want to mention as I talked about jackets and hoodies make sure that you label everything that your child wear the school a lot of times they end up on the floor and they don't remember who's this who says you'll just make sure and put your student's name inside of the clothing items also label their masks this year with their name so I can make sure and keep up with who's this who if you're sending money to school if you will make sure it's in a baggie or an envelope make sure it's marked with your students name and also what the money is for sometimes in first grade there going to be a little bit of a mix-up maybe that's lunch money that they wanted the ice cream money and sometimes it gets lost on from home to school so just make sure you also include what the money is for that will be a big help for us and you can help your student learn their lunch number that's going to be something that they have to know by themselves when they walk into the lunch and By Their Food they'll have to enter their number on their own independently I'm so if you can help with that that would be great make sure you label all supplies this year since we're not doing community supplies make sure you put your students same on all their individual supplies another thing that we knew in first grade as we will have homework and so your child will be bring home homework animal have math homework and reading homework so just be prepared to assist your child with that as they're trying to read and may need help on the assignments all right and we are so excited to see you guys soon at open house first grade will have their open house on August 6th from 12 to 4:30 will make sure and bring your mask when you come and boys and you're all you're going to get to pick one parent to bring with you open house this year so be thinking about who you want to bring with you to meet your teacher and your homeroom teacher or shortly will be sending you a sign up where you can sign up for a time for open house they're looking forward to seeing you and handed over to miss that plane hello everybody my name is mrs. Appling and I am so excited to welcome all of you guys to second grade so I'm just going to talk a little bit about your second great adventure and how it might differ just a Lil Bit from your first grade experience the biggest thing is that we're just encouraging Independence and responsibility so your second grade teachers are going to help you become more self-directed independent and responsible I think a big difference between first grade and a lot of other second grade classes at other schools is that in second grade you guys going to start switching classes so I know it was mentioned earlier that most classes at Beaufort Academy have to teacher so you'll have one teacher that served as your ballet teacher teaching you reading phonics grammar writing and all those fun things and then you also have another teacher will be teaching you math science and social studies one of these teachers will also serve as your homeroom teacher so the organization and responsibilities in directed Behavior becomes really important I'm so we'll work on those things especially at the beginning of the school year because you will transfer between two classes which is really fun and you also have two different teachers so with that said the communication that is engine is also really important between home and school because you have two teachers also to communicate with famous take me to the great job in mentioning all the different ways that we communicate here at Buford so the agenda in the email the tomb in ways that you'll probably communicate with your teachers and it's really important to communicate with both teachers because both teachers will be spending a lot of time with your child so I always suggest to parents that you actually email and write in the agenda how to make sure all your bases are covered and to email it like I said again. Teachers and if you threw a math problem you probably want an email directly the math teacher but CC the other teacher even if it's not your homeroom teacher because that's the teacher that can help you also we work on stamina and perseverance because again it's a definitely a change between first grade and second grade in terms of we want you to be more independent and so we work on things like reading stamina in Reading perseverance and Max stamina and just being able to work and stay focused because your teachers or that your students teachers going to often be working with groups the other Learners while they're working on groups have to be able to focus and pay attention and stay on task so we will definitely work on those things as well when it comes to math we want to work with your students I'm having strong number sense and to be able to know the addition and subtraction facts with quick recall because definitely going to help set them up for success in third grade so we will work on these things all school year long and you can definitely help by helping them work on their math facts at home as well and in Reading well we are still teaching our second just to learn to read and so we read read reading the only homework that you're really have in second grade is to read 20 minutes at home each night so please again I can't stress reading it out because we want again our second graders to become give me what we want our second graders to become fluent readers who can independently read and comprehend because when they get the third grade they're going to now start focusing on reading so that they can learn all kinds of exciting things so that's death play Focus that we have in second grade as parents the two things that you can definitely do to help us is to check your book bag check your agenda and your photo every night because as I stressed earlier communication is really important for the success of all of our children I'm finally pleased if your child is sick I know we really want them here and we love them very much and attendance is a really important but we want them here and we want them healthy so if you would also just make sure that if your Chao is not feeling well your child is sick and you know that ahead of time please keep them home and I am so excited to start the year with you and I can't wait to meet you at open house which will be Wednesday August 5th from 2 to 6 pair to the time to attempt suicide with your homework teachers will give to you also remember to only you can only choose one parent per child and masks are required will also have a digital student open house where you're supposed to pick up your computer and meet your teachers and learn some information about the digital world and we will have that on August 10th from 12:30 to 6 again I'm so excited to see you and here is mrs. Wade our third grade teacher thank you Miss Appling I'm Natalie waiting on the third grade teacher and on behalf of the third grade team there was a few things that we wanted to let you know about third grade I also wanted to say how excited we are to start this new school we look forward to seeing each of you what are the biggest difference between 2nd grade and 3rd grade is the independent that is expected of your child students in third grade are going to have to work independently be able to read things into the independently what are formative and summative assessments will be given to them and they will be expected to read them on their own the teacher is there and campus at will facilitate them as needed but they are expected to read those things on their own also in third grade students are expected to be able to keep up with their materials and belongings we have a lot of curriculum that we cover in third grade and because we switch classes in third grade is very for your child to be very organized and have all their materials ready when they switch classes I'm a lot of times kids come and we waste a lot of valuable time when they're looking for a missing morning work or missing homework or pencil or things that they may have left in their switch teeth clap so please encourage your child to be very organized you can do this by helping them at night get organized for the next day looking through their backpack throwing away things that they may not need making sure of their binder is organized and make sure they have all materials for the stay at school another important thing about 3rd grade is that we expect third graders to be fluent in basic addition and subtraction facts this is very important because of the rigor that we have in third grade with our math curriculum going to be able to recall those back quickly so that they don't spend too much time on the problems because they get harder as they get older if they know these addition and subtraction facts will be easy for them to start learning their multiplication facts and think of pasta di we are so excited for your child to be in third grade with us and again open house for third grade will be August 5th from 8 a.m. till 12 p.m. and we look forward to seeing you soon as you can pick one parent to come please make sure you wear your mask and also we have a digital open house on August 10th from 12:30 to 6 p.m. so those of you that are digital learner to be able to come pick up your equipment and meet your digital teachers we look so forward to seeing you this school year get back to misprint says that she can have some closing words for you thank you guys I have we were able to answer some of your questions today if not your teacher who has an email which on the keep explain to you it's their first name.
