Six Flags Read to Succeed Program Begins January 20, 2015
Do you like to read? Do you like to go to Six Flags Over Georgia? You can earn a free Six Flags Ticket by reading 360 minutes of recreational reading from January 20th until February 20th. What is "recreational" reading? That is any reading that is not assigned for homework, classwork, or for a grade. Some examples include books, magazines, comic books, newspapers, ebooks, and cereal boxes just to name a few. Have fun earning your free Six Flags tickets. You need to record your minutes on the Six Flag log sheet and turn it in to your teacher no later than February 20, 2015. You can follow the program on Twitter @readtosucceed. You will be receiving a log sheet, but if you need an extra, just click the link below.

B.A. Kids are Getting Fit in the New Year
At Buford Academy our Physical Education Department prides itself on keeping our kids healthy and active. Our students participate in a variety of fitness programs on a daily basis. Our hope is that our children will adopt regular physical activity as a part of their lifestyle. There are four main goals of modern physical education:
• to improve physical fitness,
• to shape positive attitudes towards physical activity,
• to give children the skills they need to enjoy different physical activities,
• to help them understand the importance of regular exercise and the connection between physical health and general well-being.

Character Education: Speaking Up
Why should kids Speak Up?
“Research shows that bystanders intervene only 20% of the time, but when they do, bullying stops about 50% of the time,” Bazelon said. Even the smallest act of intervention can work wonders, she added. “Bystanders can help in many ways, simply by standing with the victim or touching their shoulder during an incident, or even by sending a supportive text or calling them on the phone afterward.”- Emily Bazelon (www.emilybazelon.com)
“Kids need to understand how powerful you really are. You can really rescue someone; you can be a hero.” Kathleen Seblius (Secretary of Health and Human Services)
The Cartoon Network has an amazing program just for you all about Speaking Up. Visit the Cartoon Network for more information.
