GaDOE Launches Parent Involvement Parent & Student Video Contests!
"Every year the state of Georgia recognizes the month of November as Parent Engagement Month, and schools across the state highlight the role parents play in a student’s education. Additionally, the third Thursday in November is National Parent Involvement Day. This is a day for all parents to consider how they can get more involved in the education of their children. To recognize Parent Engagement Month this year, the Georgia Department of Education is launching two new video contests for all parents and Title I schools." (www.gadoe.org)
Georgia's Parent Engagement Program has developed a calendar with daily activities to keep parents engaged with their students throughout the month. The calendar has a wide range of activities for Elementary, Middle, and High School students. The Spanish version is coming soon. For more information on other Parent Engagement Month activities, click here.
Georgia Schools' Parent Survey
The National School Climate Center defines school climate as “the quality and character of school life” that is based on the “patterns of students’, parents’, and school personnel’s experiences of school life.” Your opinion as parents makes a huge impact on our School Climate Star Rating. You can let us know what we are doing well and how we can improve by taking the parent survey below. Later, surveys will be given to students and faculty. This particular survey is for parents. Visit the Governor's Office of Student Achievement to learn more about the School Climate Star Rating and the formula used to rate each school.
November All Pro Dads Celebration
So glad to have our dads back again- We were so excited to see the parking lots packed to capacity as our favorite guys got out of bed extra early just to come spend a little extra time with us. Dexter Wood, Buford High School's Athletic director, imparted words of wisdom as the keynote speaker for this event. The Chick-fil-A breakfast and time with those special men in our lives was a perfect way for our students to start out the day. Don't worry if you weren't able to make it this time; there will be another All Pro Dad breakfast coming again soon!
Run Raiser Reward Day
Our top Run Raiser Pledge earners got to celebrate in style today as they enjoyed a very delicious Chick-fil-A lunch in the Teachers' Dining room. (They totally threw the teachers out for the day- HA HA) They enjoyed the inflatable bounce houses and obstacle courses along with just some good old-fashioned play time. Without the hard work of these amazing students, we would never have been able to raise so much money for our school. We are completely grateful to them for their efforts and hope they enjoyed their time out of class!
SANTA SHOP SET TO OPEN!
Our annual Secret Santa Shop is one of the favorite shopping events of the year for our students. It is a chance for the kids to come in and make selections and purchases for all the important people in their lives. All items in the Santa Shop are $3.00 and are a great bargain to enable students to purchase multiple items. We have volunteers to assist students in the process so that all of their items get wrapped and come home as a real surprise gift. The Santa Shop will be open the week after the break from November 30-December 4. Look for details to be coming home with your student in the coming weeks.
Each year, our Student Council strives to give back to the community with our annual Giving Tree. There are so many ways to show you care. Just choose a tag (or more than one) from the tree. Sign the list next to the tag(s) you have chosen. Be sure to include your name and phone number. Follow the instructions for gift purchasing (available at the sign up table) Return all unwrapped gifts with the Giving Tree tag to BA on or before Thursday, December 10, 2015. If possible, please include wrapping paper or a gift bag with your gift(s). The Giving Tree is located just inside the BA lobby. If you would like to help out just stop by and select your tag. Your gift(s) really make the difference in the holidays for many of our students! Thanks for supporting our Giving Tree.
