Georgia Milestones measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the state-adopted content standards in English Language Arts (Reading), mathematics, science, and social studies for students in grades 3-8. Students in grades 3 through 8 take an end-of-grade (EOG) assessment in English Language Arts (Reading) and mathematics while students in grades 5 and 8 are also assessed in science and social studies. High school students take an end-of-course assessment for each of the ten courses designated by the State Board of Education.
Buford City Schools will administer the Georgia Milestones End of Grade assessments beginning May 10, 2021. All students who are present during the assigned testing dates/times will be expected to participate in the appropriate grade level assessment.
Buford City Schools is a Title 20 No-Waivers School District; therefore, students in grade 3 must pass the Reading portion of the Milestones (EOG) assessment to be promoted, while students in grades 5 & 8 must pass Reading and Math EOG assessments to be promoted. All non-participants as well as students who do not pass the assessments in the May administration will be offered a retest opportunity in June. If students fail or do not participate in the Milestones (EOG) assessments, parents will be required to meet with the school principal and teacher for placement determination for the 2021-2022 school year.
